Two goals in the first ten minutes were enough for a visiting Barnsley to defeat Blackburn Rovers in the English Championship.

The results were more devastating for Rovers as Bristol City won Wolves 3-1, Burton played 1-1 with Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest defeated Huddersfield 2-0. Blackburn are deeper in the relegation mess with the result – their third loss in the last three games.

Marc Roberts netted as early as the third minute at Ewood Park. The second goal came from Marley Watkins whose effort hit the bar before scoring from 25 yards.

Tony Mowbray started decently in charge of Rovers but the recent string of results mean Rovers might feature in the League One next season.

“It’s always been a big job and today’s results obviously don’t help at all. If you’re looking for a positive and a light at the end of the tunnel, the next two games are against Forest and Bristol City and we have to go and try and take maximum points of course,” the former West Bromwich Albion manager said.

The victory sees Barnsley remain same points with Brentford but very far from a playoff spot.

Blackburn played Barnsley but they could barely support all the work with precision upfront. They barely created clear attempts at goal. They are four points from Bristol who sit on the 21st spot. Bristol defeated Wolves courtesy of goals from Jamie Paterson, and a brace from Tammy Abraham. They were 3-1 up before Wolves pulled one back through Jon Dadi Bodvarsson.

Victoryover Wolvesgives City an edge in the rat race with five games to go this term. They would have to avoid a loss against Rovers when they meet.
