Charlton Athletic defender Patrick Bauer has revealed that he is set to leave the club on a free transfer this summer. The sturdy defender had been one of the stalwart in the club becoming a cult hero with the fans.
His tough tackling and uncompromising attitude to defending made him a regular in the team and the player revealed on Twitterhis decision.

Bauer had been linked to a number of clubs including Wigan Athletic, Preston North End and Blackburn Rovers. In his message in Twitter Bauer expressed his gratitude to the club for the love and support showed to him during his time at the club.

He also revealed his satisfaction that he leaves on a high having helped secure promotion to the Championship last season.

Bauer scored the most important goal of his career in last month’s League One playoff final against Sunderland. It is understood that the player is looking to move forward in his career and would weigh his options before committing to a move.

Bauer joined Charlton from German side Stuttgart in 2015 and was part of the Charlton team that got relegated from the Championship that season.
He has gone on to develop into one of the top defenders in League One and this was on display last season. His winner in the playoffs final crowned his efforts as one if the star players for the team.

Charlton had been hoping that he would agree on a new contract as they face what would be a difficult task of retaining their Championship status next season. However, Bauer wants a new challenge as he approached his peak years.

Blackburn Rovers are in search of quality players that could improve the defence and Bauer is one of their top targets. Rovers should be able to offer the German a good contract that would see him lineup at Ewood Park next season.
