Blackburn's new owners have given the backing for Sam Allardyce. The Rao family completed their £43m takeover of Rovers through their newly formed company, Venky's London Limited, on 19 October.

"We want results and Sam has taken up the challenge. He deserves a chance," Venky's chairman Anuradha Desai said.

The Rao family have vowed to preserve the traditions of the Ewood Park club and to build upon the legacy left by previous owner Jack Walker.

Blackburn Rovers boss Sam Allardyce says that he is keeping an eye on young star Phil Jones so that he doesn't get carried away. The 18-year-old, who came up through the youth ranks at Blackburn Rovers, was 'outstanding' for the Young Lions this month.

He also impressed in central midfield for Rovers in their last two games against Manchester City and Fulham. But while delighted with the youngster's achievements, Allardyce does not want to see him lose focus.

Blackburn Rovers striker Benjani is keen to hand Sam Allardyce a major fitness boost. Benjani, 32, who was a free agent after being released by Manchester City, had to allay concerns over a knee problem suffered during a spell at Portsmouth.

He told BBC Radio Lancashire: "I didn't have any problem proving my fitness.

"I'm happy here - I hope to score goals and if I'm fit I know I will have to fight for my place."

He added: "The Premier League is the best league in the world and I always wanted to stay here.

Brett Emerton is hugely positive of Blackburn Rovers' chances for the new Premier League after being involved in the pre-season matches. The Rovers are in Sydney for the Festival of Football which kicks off this Sunday and sees them pitted against A-League champions Sydney FC, Scottish giants Glasgow Rangers and Greek outfit AEK Athens in three match days over a week.

Emerton said the tournament will be a great way for manager Sam Allardyce to iron out any kinks and get his squad to where he wants it for the rigors of the EPL.

Blackburn Rovers defender Phil Jones has pledged his long-term future to the club by signing a new five-year contract at Ewood Park.

The 18-year-old is now under contract until the summer of 2015, having broken into the Rovers first-team set-up this season.

The deal comes as a major boost to Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce, who is aware that some of the Premier League's big guns are already showing an interest in centre-half Jones.
