BENJANI SIGNS NEW DEAL

Blackburn striker Benjani has signed a new deal with the club after his contract expired. The 32-year-old scored only three Premier League goals for Rovers last season and his contract has expired.

But the former Zimbabwe international revealed he has been offered a new 12-month deal by Rovers boss Steve Kean.

He told the Lancashire Telegraph: “Yes, I will be back at Blackburn again next season.”

BENJANI TARGETS FITNESS BOOST

Blackburn Rovers striker Benjani is keen to hand Sam Allardyce a major fitness boost. Benjani, 32, who was a free agent after being released by Manchester City, had to allay concerns over a knee problem suffered during a spell at Portsmouth.

He told BBC Radio Lancashire: “I didn’t have any problem proving my fitness.

“I’m happy here – I hope to score goals and if I’m fit I know I will have to fight for my place.”

He added: “The Premier League is the best league in the world and I always wanted to stay here.
