The midfielder faced a lot of setbacks during the summer. He suffered injury for his ankle ligament in a pre-season behind closed doors game against Macclesfield Town.

Tony Mowbray stated it seems that Davenport has to wait for some time to make his return as a senior footballer to the team, despite the fact that he has resumed with his training sessions. Manager for Blackburn Rovers is very much conscious about Jacob. He, along with his entire team must take care of the midfielder as he was out of the play for a long time due to back-to-back injuries. Tony likes to watch Davenport as a footballer during his training sessions as he tackles the ball around the pitch with his left foot. He also said that he must play some under 23 matches to get accustomed with the play and gain his confidence again. Jacob must start playing as a midfielder again to make himself strong and robust.

Mowbray said that the player can still develop and that he is happy that he has signed for four years with them. He said that they are older players that are moving around for much more money and that he is happy that he has been able to sign him on a bargain.

He said that the player will need to work hard to get into the team as there are currently some players that are ahead of him in the pecking order but he is confident that he will achieve this. Tony Mowbray assesses Blackburn Rovers’ pre-season plans

Blackburn Rovers manager Tony Mowbray believes his team will be better prepared for their league season than they were 12 months ago. The Rovers began their League One season last term with back-to-back defeats after having spent their pre-season tackling clubs from the lower divisions in England.

The Lancashire outfit once more have games against weaker sides in the form of Hibernian, Port Vale, Lincoln City and Accrington Stanley but Mowbray is pleased that the club have found a better balance with a couple of high-profile friendlies yet to be announced. He said:“I think we’ve got a balanced pre-season this year. We’ve got some fixtures that we haven’t announced yet, that are going to really test the team. We’re going to be out of possession and we’re going to have to work hard on our defensive shape. And then there’s some games where hopefully we’ve got some of the ball and we’re going to work at trying to break the teams down.”

Prior to those friendlies, Mowbray is expected to travel with the team for a warm weather training camp in Austria and the manager will be hoping to avoid any injuries to any of his key players. Despite suffering successive defeats at the start of last term, the Rovers eased their way to promotion from League One after they succumbed to only four more losses in the remaining 44 games.

However, they can’t anticipate a similar run on their return to the Championship considering the strength of other squads plying their trade in the division. As per the latest odds, Blackburn are among the top-five candidates who could potentially face relegation next term and it will be interesting to see whether the club will make a couple of quality signings to increase their chances of survival. Blackburn previously bowed out of the Championship via goal difference during the 2016/17 season.

Tony Mowbray In Contention For West Bromwich Albion Role

Blackburn Rovers manager Tony Mowbray has emerged as a surprise candidate to become the next head coach of West Bromwich Albion. The 54-year-old previously guided the Baggies to Premier League promotion back in 2008 but the failure to beat relegation saw him dismissed 12 months later.

According to The Mirror, the Baggies are already contemplating the prospect of recruit a new manager with Darren Moore placed on temporary charge for the remainder of the campaign. Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes and Leicester City assistant Michael Appleton have been associated with the vacancy, but Mowbray has been linked with a probable return owing to his experience of coaching in the Championship.

Despite the speculation, the Baggies may prefer to stick with Moore, who has been a solid presence since taking over as the caretaker. The 43-year-old has instilled confidence into the players since Alan Pardew’s dismissal, and this has resulted in a couple of positive results including a shock 1-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The victory was only the Baggies’ fourth of the Premier League campaign and this has maintained their top-flight status for at least another week. The Baggies can secure a maximum of 36 points if they are to win their remaining games, but that appears a huge task with games against Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool still to come.

Nevertheless, the club can aim to end the season on a high with positives, which could provide them with the platform to make a swift return. With demotion, the Baggies are expected to lose a couple of their key players with relegation release clauses, and the hierarchy may need to re-invest wisely to find cohesion within the team. West Brom are due to host Liverpool in the Premier League this weekend, and anything less than a victory could see them relegation from the top-flight.
