Blackburn Rovers defender Ryan Nelsen will miss the rest of the season due to injury thus giving a major blow to their survival hopes.

The New Zealand international was forced off in Rovers' 1-1 draw with Birmingham at the weekend and underwent surgery on Monday.

Blackburn are currently three points above the relegation zone in 15th place and Nelsen’s partnership with Christopher Samba in the centre of defence formed the basis of the side's security, but now boss Steve Kean will be shorn of one half of his pairing.
